On the final day of the FIFA U-20 World Cup Egypt 2009, FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter answered sporting and development questions asked by reporters from all over the world at a news conference in Cairo.

Joseph S. Blatter

On the FIFA U-20 World Cup Egypt 2009
I'd like to offer warm thanks to the Organising Committee, the Local Organising Committee, and its President Hany Abo Rida, for their outstanding work in hosting the FIFA U-20 World Cup. The entire organisation of the tournament, the stadiums and the infrastructure have met the highest standards in every respect. Without any doubt, Egypt's hosting of this tournament proves that the nation is capable of staging a FIFA World Cup one day.

On the FIFA U-17 World Cup Nigeria 2009
The FIFA U-17 World Cup in Nigeria, the second major youth tournament of the year on African soil, starts in approximately a week from now. We hope, and we're indeed confident, that this tournament will run as successfully as the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Egypt.

On preparations for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™
I'm proud to announce that everything is going according to plan. The next important event, the draw for the group stage, takes place on 4 December in Cape Town, with a superb supporting programme. This will again emphasise the many humanitarian activities associated with the 2010 FIFA World Cup. We're already thoroughly looking forward to what we hope will be a successful first-ever FIFA World Cup on the African continent.

On FIFA's humanitarian activities in Africa
As part of the process of awarding the 2010 FIFA World Cup to South Africa, we resolved to instigate a number of special activities in Africa. One of these is the 'Win in Africa with Africa' initiative, incorporating a range of projects designed to aid the entire African continent in a number of areas. Funding for the initiative runs to 70 million US dollars. We're providing a foundation which we hope Africa will build on, enabling football in Africa to make significant progress in the future.

On the opening of a new football project in Cairo
It's a wonderful facility. It makes me proud to see this magnificent result of our long-term development work. I'd like to thank everyone who's made it possible to implement this project. We hope we've made a significant contribution to the further development of the game. But we all have our contribution to make. Especially in the context of the 'Win in Africa with Africa' initiative, it's important for each nation to take responsibility for promoting these projects and continue developing for themselves.

On the award of the 2016 Olympic Games to Rio de Janeiro
I'm extremely happy with the International Olympic Committee's decision to award the 2016 Olympic Games to Rio de Janeiro. The IOC is thus adopting the direction taken by FIFA for many years, namely to incorporate every continent on the planet.
