There were a number of winners inside Zurich’s Kongresshaus on 13 January 2014. Two nevertheless stood out.
Brazilian legend Pele received the FIFA Ballon d’Or Prix d’Honneur in recognition of his extraordinary career. O Rei then returned to the stage to present the FIFA Ballon d’Or award to either Lionel Messi, Franck Ribery or Cristiano Ronaldo.
Pele opened the envelope and said, ‘And the name is… Cristiano Ronaldo’. That left the emotional Portuguese in tears, having won the honour for the second time and ended Messi’s four-year spell on the throne.
And above photo shows an emotional Ronaldo examining his prize – with Cristiano Junior flashing a cheeky grin! Son recently showed off some impressive football skills alongside dad on the beach in the Bahamas. Could he be a future winner of the FIFA Ballon d’Or?
