In our regular Sunday feature, we bring you the names of some of the best-known figures on Planet Football who will be celebrating their birthdays over the coming week.

1 Mark Hughes, arguably the best-known Welsh football talent along with Ryan Giggs and Ian Rush, is 46 today. A world-class striker in the 80s and 90s with the likes of Manchester United, Barcelona and Bayern Munich, Sparky is currently in the hot seat at Manchester City.

2 He rates as the shooting star of Montenegrin football and turns 20 on Monday; Stevan Jovetic made his senior international debut back in 2007 and currently goes for goal in a Fiorentina shirt. He has struck three times in Serie A and twice in the UEFA Champions League so far this term.

3 German strike legend Gerd Muller will be 64 on Tuesday. His goal-scoring achievements may well stand for eternity: he fired 68 goals in 62 appearances for his country, and an even more astonishing 398 in 453 games for Bayern Munich, where he is currently reserve team assistant coach.

4 Two-time FIFA World Cup™ participant Luis Figo (37) finally hung up his boots last summer after an illustrious career taking in big-name clubs such as Barcelona, Real Madrid and Inter Milan, collecting honours aplenty as he went. The Portugal midfielder appeared in the UEFA Euro 2004 final on home soil.

5 Abedi Pele (45) graced the Africa Cup of Nations no fewer than four times. The Ghana playmaker was also named African Player of the Year three times (1991, 1992 and 1993) and rates as one of the greats in his home country. At club level, the 1.74m schemer enjoyed his heyday with Olympique Marseille.

6 USA talent Jozy Altidore (20) has already earned 24 caps for his country and featured at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada two years ago. The striker switched to the English Premier League with Hull City last summer, where he is on loan from Spanish side Villarreal.

7 Mohamed Aboutrika, arguably Egypt's all-time most popular star, will be 31 today. The midfield string-puller has 15 goals to his name in 35 international appearances, and is currently engaged in the battle for a place at the 2010 FIFA World Cup finals in South Africa.
