Auckland City defeated Koloale 7-2 in the O-League first-leg final at Honiara's Lawson Tama Stadium. Both teams now head into the second leg at Auckland's Kiwitea Street on Sunday, 3 May with Oceania's playoff spot at the FIFA Club World Cup on the line.
Koloale opened the scoring in the tenth minute when Joses Nawo sliced the ball through for captain Richard Anisua who rounded the keeper for the finish. The hosts thought they had a second six minutes later, but referee Strebe Delovski had already called a foul.
Auckland were back in it soon thereafter and took the lead in the 39th minute through a brilliant free kick by Ki-Hung Lee. Paul Urlovic made it a two-goal buffer just one minute later. In the second half, Vicelich put the game out of reach, nodding home a free-kick in the 58th minute and Keryn Jordan finished with three.
"That was the best finishing I've seen all year," said Auckland coach Paul Posa. "We probably didn't create more than about seven or eight chances, but we just put them all away and that was the difference."
Koloale's Henry Fa'arodo said: "You can't afford to lose your focus against teams like Auckland City because they'll put the game out of reach in the space of ten minutes - and that's what they did today."
