A former politician and elite football player in his native Sweden, Thomas Bodstrom has been practicing law for nearly three decades. In May 2017, he was formally appointed Chairman of the Appeal Committee at the 67th FIFA Congress in Bahrain.

Bringing his combined experiences of the football and legal world to the role, Bodstrom’s playing career included a spell with Swedish club AIK from 1987 to 1989. He then hung up his boots to pursue a career in the legal profession after graduating with a Bachelor of Laws degree from Stockholm University in 1990. A decade later, Bodstrom entered the world of politics when he served as Minister of Justice in the Swedish Social Democratic Party government of Prime Minister Göran Persson from 2000 to 2006.
