  • New Zealand well placed to progress in Group E
  • *All four teams in Group F in the hunt for second-round places *

*MATCHDAY PREVIEW – *Sunday’s four matches are the last of the group phase at the FIFA U-20 World Cup Korea Republic 2017 and will complete the line-up for the Round of 16.

One team already through from Groups E and F is France, while the other qualification slots in the two sections have yet to be claimed. In the first of the two pools, New Zealand look best placed to advance, especially as they are likely to face a much-changed Bleuets line-up in their final game. In the other match in the group, Honduras and Vietnam will both seek a maiden win in the competition, and with it, a possible place in the second round.

Group F, meanwhile, is the tightest of all the sections at Korea Republic 2017. While the other five sections have each seen one team check into the last 16 with a game to spare, Senegal, Ecuador, USA and Saudi Arabia are all still in contention. There should be plenty of suspense and excitement in store when the Africans and South Americans face off in Jeonju, while the Stars and Stripes and the Saudis lock horns in Daejeon.

Matches of the day
Group E: Honduras-Vietnam | New Zealand-France
Group F: Senegal-Ecuador | USA-Saudi Arabia

*What you need to know *1 *Senegal *striker Ibrahima N’Diaye will sit out the meeting with Ecuador after picking up yellow cards in both his side’s first two games. His absence is a serious setback for the young Lions of Teranga and coach Joseph Koto, with N’Diaye having played in all their CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations and Korea Republic 2017 matches.

2 The scorer of three goals already at Korea Republic 2017, 17-year-old Josh Sargent is the youngest USA player to have found the back of the net in a FIFA U-20 World Cup match. Should he add one more goal to his tally, he will join Jozy Altidore (Canada 2007), Eddie Johnson (UAE 2003) and Taylor Twellman (Nigeria 1999) as the leading American marksmen in the competition.

3 In their six previous U-20 World Cup appearances, Honduras have never gone beyond the group phase. Despite winning two games at Tunisia 1977 – the inaugural competition – it was not enough to see them advance, with their campaigns at Qatar 1995, Nigeria 1999, Netherlands 2005, Egypt 2009 and New Zealand 2015 also ending in the first round.

4 Prior to their defeat of Honduras, New Zealand had never scored earlier than the 40th minute in a U-20 World Cup match, a run of ten relatively late goals that ended when Myer Bevan put the All Whites 1-0 up against the Hondurans after just 46 seconds. The New Zealanders went on to record only their second victory in the history of the competition, two years after the first, against Myanmar on home soil.
