goals in 58 appearances is what Lionel Messi scored for club and country between 16 July 2018 and 19 July 2019 – the highest total among nominees for The Best FIFA Men’s Player. ‘The Atomic Flea’ was followed by Kylian Mbappe (44 in 54), Mo Salah (33 in 60), Cristiano Ronaldo (31 in 47) and Sadio Mane (30 in 61).

years and six-and-a-half months makes Phil Neville the youngest of the 20 coaches nominated. He is closely followed by 43-year-olds Djamel Belmadi and Marcelo Gallardo. Fernando Santos, 64, is the oldest.

goals is what the nominees for The Best FIFA Women’s Player scored at the recent FIFA Women’s World Cup™. Alex Morgan, Megan Rapinoe and Ellen White led the way with six goals apiece, while Sam Kerr (5) Wendie Renard (4), Rose Lavelle, Vivianne Miedema (3), Amandine Henry (2), Lucy Bronze, Julie Ertz and Caroline Graham Hansen (1) also contributed. Ada Hegerberg was the only one of the 12 not to play at France 2019.

years and six months is the staggering age difference between Matthijs de Ligt, 19, and 34-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo. The Netherlands centre-back was only seven when the Portugal attacker won the FIFA World Player of the Year award for 2008.

nominees for The Best FIFA Men’s Coach were predominantly defensive players. Jurgen Klopp, Mauricio Pochettino and Erik ten Hag were centre-backs, Fernando Santos was a fullback, and Didier Deschamps, Pep Guardiola and Tite were holding midfielders.
