From 5 to 11 August, followers of @FIWC on Twitter tested their knowledge of the FIFA Interactive World Cup in the hopes of claiming one of seven prize packages.
Each day of the contest, three tough trivia questions - based on the historic locations, moments and virtual stars of the world’s largest gaming tournament - were posted on the FIWC's official website. Users were only able to submit one set of answers daily, forcing them to search the virtual football history books carefully in order to hunt down the correct answers and win an entry into the daily prize draw.
The hard work proved worth it, as seven lucky followers claimed some incredible prizes. “The prize is amazing,” said @MjBlanco25 after finding out he had won a Borussia Dortmund jersey, signed by Mats Hummels at Signal Iduna Park during the FIWC13 Germany Territory Showdown. Hummels put his pen to the jersey just a few days before Dortmund put Real Madrid to the sword in their incredible 4-1 victory at home in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final. “Mats Hummels is one of the best defenders of the world. BVB and Germany should be proud to have a great player like him. It’s a pleasure to have his signed shirt,” said @MjBlanco25.
“Personally, I take this prize as a consolation for my efforts towards FIWC 2013,” Day 7 winner @RazakPopcaan told FIFA.com. The Ghanaian is an avid gamer, competing in online seasons and managing to place in the top 20 for Season 2 of FIWC13 online qualifiers. “I was also chosen amongst the top videos in the FIWC Celebration Contest, but didn’t make it into the final,” the upbeat gamer said.
“I feel very happy with the prize. I'm very excited because Sergio Canales is a very good player,” Day 5 winner @kike_correafran told us after finding out about winning a club jersey signed by the Valencia midfielder.
Meanwhile, Day 1 winner @davidjmedina couldn’t believe his luck when he received the news that he had won two amazing prizes: an adidas Cafusa ball signed by former FIFA World Cup™ winner Christian Karembeu, Spain international Raul Albiol and former Celtic and Bayern Munich striker Alan McInally, and a FIWC jersey signed by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger. “I feel very excited about the prize,” he said. “I'm passionate about football and I will love it!”
The difficulty level of the quiz drew varying responses from our winners. “The FIWC site wasn’t any secret for me, with a few searches and surfing, I founds all the answers,” said @MjBlanco25. Our Ghanaian winner had a deferent perspective: “The quiz was somehow tough, because you had to dig deep and do a lot of research, but it was quite interesting.” Meanwhile, Day 1 winner @davidjmedina thinks it was a combination of both: “The quiz was easy for two of the questions but then one was always a tough question.”
“I hope that I can be able to try my luck again in the next qualifiers, and make it to wherever the Grand Final will be held,” @RazakPopcaan said, looking to the future and the launch of FIWC 2014. “I am most looking forward to the chance to play against the top players from all over the place, meeting them and sharing ideas.”
